If you read my earlier blogs, you probably noticed the recurring call to ‘be the boss of you.’ I have discovered that most of the problems in my life and I believe in the world are related to control. There seems to be a prevailing need in our world for one person to have power over another person. From parents trying control their children, to supervisors trying to control employees, to nations trying to control nations. I believe that the most powerful person in the world is not the person who has power over other people but the person who has power over his or her emotions, thoughts, body, and spirit. I always say to those with hair trigger tempers that it would be easy to control them by simply knowing what pushes their buttons and finding a way to strategically push them.
I believe that if you master yourself, you cannot be mastered by anyone or anything and if God is your master, you cannot be defeated. Food, money, sex, power, attention, love, and so much more can be used to control us if we have not learned to control ourselves. I always say that anything you cannot say no to can be used to control you. The most difficult person to control is not the person who is out of control but the person who is in control of themselves. This is simply because you cannot find anything they want bad enough, to give up control of themselves. This kind of person also knows that real power comes from empowering others, not in taking power from them, or trying to control them. I contend that any attempt to control another person is an abuse of power.
To be disciplined for success is to be disciplined to see others succeed also.
